The agency did not always have the satisfaction of creative challenges or good compensation but we have always welcomed opportunities. Sparkles has always been an ambitious modeling agency, one that is fueled by passion for excellence and its commitment towards achieving its goals.
On July 18th, 1993, a fashion presentation took place at the Caribbee Hotel in Barbados. This was not by chance. It was the result of tireless weeks of work by a team of dedicated persons inspired by leadership. This was the creation of the fashion show called “EXPLOSION”. Nine years have passed and “EXLOSION” has become an annual show. It was also held in Trinidad, St. Kitts, Antigua and Miami. “EXPLOSION” features the work of local designers, and our objective is to establish relationships in Caribbean countries to promote designers and assist them in finding new markets for their garments.
June 4th, 2000 saw Sparkles holding Miss Teen Barbados at the Frank Collymore Hall. Eight young ladies competed for the title and Nadia Forte was crowned Miss TeenBarbados. She admits to being shy and lacking self-confidence before she entered. She has now become a more mature person who admits winning helped her overcome her shyness and made her more aware of herself.
On August 20th, 2006 Sparkles International held Miss Teen Universe at Sherbourne Conference centre Featuring 12 countries from around the world Bonnie Gillis from U.S.A has crowned queen, Anuscha Haughton from Jamaica was 2nd runner up, Leshay Drayton from Barbados was 1st runner up. Miss Teen Universe gives teens a chance to compete at an international level after winning their local pageant. The pageant now renames Miss Teen Universal, will be held in Puerto Rico from 18th July – 22nd July 2007. Countries can bid to host the Miss Teen Universal in their countries. South Africa has express interest. Delegates are judged in National Costume and Introduction, Talent, Swim Wear, Evening Gown, Question and Answer.
Nadia made several TV appearances donating money to charity. The Salvation Army, The Barbados Red Cross Society and The
Barbados Cancer Society all received $500.00 each from Sparkles International represented by Nadia Forte. Sparkles will continue todonate money annually to these organizations as Miss Teen Barbados is held, through the queen.
Sparkles believes the region is a melting pot of talent and has what it takes to create our own unique Caribbean identity and through out projects we hope to achieve this.
Sparkles’ philosophy incorporates the saying “It is better to be prepare for an opportunity and don’t have it, than not to be prepared when it happens”. Moreover Sparkles made a decision no to indulge in any practice that would cause the models to loose their dignity. Professionalism, diversification and creativity are all hallmarks of Sparkles today.
Problems occur, personalities clash, good intentions are misunderstood but the group remains true to its cause and when burdens seem too much to bear, laughter remains the only cure.
Sparkles over the years has encountered many praises, challenges, disappointments, emotions, anger, disgust, sympathy and peace. The final emotion being the most important; because in every situation they provided a clear mind and the ability to move on.
That is Sparkles, real people with a dream and pursuing that dream.
